About to send the quote?Give it one more set of eyes.

You know how to do the work. TestQuote helps you check whether the quote reflects the job you actually intend to deliver — before it reaches the customer.

What made you pause?

Usually, it isn't the whole quote.
It's one thing you're not completely sure about.

“Have I allowed enough?”
“What have I forgotten?”
“Will the customer understand what I mean?”
“What happens if we uncover more work?”
“Have I made the exclusions clear?”
“I just want another set of eyes before I send it.”

That's where we start. Not by telling you how to run the job — by testing the quote from the side that's about to receive it.

Commercial thinking

A clear quote is only part of the job.

Before you hit send, it can be worth looking beyond the number. Is this the kind of work you want? Does the customer understand the value? Where could your time disappear? And if they accepted tomorrow, would you be happy you won it?

The quote

Does it reflect the job you intend to deliver?

Scope, assumptions, responsibilities, exclusions and the path for extra work should make sense to the person receiving it — not only the person who priced it.

The opportunity

Is this a job worth winning?

A technically good quote can still be the wrong commercial decision. Sometimes the better question isn't “How do I win this?” — it's “Do I want to?”

Before you hit send

A few questions worth taking with you.

If they accepted tomorrow, would you be happy you won it? What have you assumed that may not be obvious to the customer? Where could the hours you've allowed disappear? Are you simply providing a price — or already providing valuable pre-construction thinking?

Before

Uncertainty.

  • Have I covered the true job?
  • Are my assumptions visible?
  • Could an exclusion be misunderstood?
  • Could extra work become my cost?
After

A clearer position.

  • Pressure-test scope and allowances
  • Spot potential unpriced work
  • Clarify responsibilities and exclusions
  • Create a practical pathway for extras

A commercial sense-check

The number can look fine until you look underneath it.

Say you've allowed 24 hours for the job. TestQuote doesn't pretend to know that 24 hours is right or wrong from one line in a quote. We look at what has to happen inside those hours — setup, demolition, making good, return visits, coordination and cleanup — and ask where the allowance could be exposed.

The point

Not “charge more.” Think more clearly before you commit.

Sometimes the issue is price. Sometimes it's scope. Sometimes it's an unstated assumption, an awkward responsibility or a job that was never a great fit. Commercial thinking means seeing that before it becomes your problem on site.

Why this matters to me

I used to think I needed to win more quotes.

Early in my career as a carpenter, there were times I'd quote around fifteen jobs to win one. I thought I had a price problem. What took me longer to understand was that being good at the work didn't automatically make me good at explaining the work.

I hadn't always made the scope, assumptions and value clear enough. And sometimes I was investing hours trying to win work that wasn't the right work for me in the first place.

Learning to think differently about quoting changed the way I priced, communicated and eventually ran my business. TestQuote comes from those lessons — another experienced perspective before you commit.

The work around the work

Some costs don't look like line items until they're yours.

Protection, setup, return visits, waste, access, cleanup and coordination can quietly become part of the job. We don't automatically tell you to charge more. We help you decide who owns the responsibility — and whether your quote makes that clear.

Floor and surface protection
Dust containment and cleanup
Return visits and setup time
Waste and disposal boundaries
Other-trade coordination
Access, contents and customer responsibilities

What TestQuote isn't

We're not here to tell you how to run your business.

We won't invent a “correct” price without enough information, promise your margin, or turn a simple quote into a five-page contract. We test the quote you've written against the job you intend to deliver — from the customer's side of the table. Your business, your numbers, your decision.

Before you put your quote to the test

Not as a blanket number. We can pressure-test the information you provide, identify assumptions worth checking and highlight where the quote may not reflect the job you think you've priced.
Tell us. An intentional exclusion isn't automatically a problem. We look at whether the customer can understand the boundary and who owns the responsibility.
The review may show clearer wording where it helps explain a weak area, but TestQuote is a review — not a full quoting or contract-drafting service.
Where the documents support it, yes. We may prompt you to check items such as protection, setup, return visits, waste, access, cleanup and coordination. We won't label something “missing” simply because it isn't relevant or you've intentionally dealt with it another way.
